Now, Chris creates living sculptures, but he doesn’t exactly build or make them. He grows them. He’s given sea anemones homes in martini glasses and covered lizards with crystals. He may not have worked with human bone yet, but he has worked with bone from a little lower on the food chain. “I’ve been using animal bones to grow crystals off of and have found that they’re really versatile both as a medium for growth and as a signifier. They’re able to place the whole human condition with death, with nature, and with the wild unknown together.”

Chris is drawn to working with life. If the materials he’s working with don’t have it, he has a way of breathing it into them. Some of his greatest work has been done in magazine collage. Chris has created creatures out of magazine that are not only extremely imaginative, but could easily be believed to have imaginations of their own. They have personality.
